Frequently Asked Questions

National ICS Equity Institute

Can I attend the ICS Equity Institutes without a team?

Right caret

The ICS Equity Framework and Process builds the “collaborative equity capacity” of the entire organization through team implementation. The ICS Equity Institutes rely on intentional teams to learn about the Framework and Process to implement ICS Equity in their setting.

An individual or two from an organization may attend the ICS Equity Institute to learn about the work to be able to invite teams from their setting to attend future ICS Equity Institutes.

National ICS Equity Institute

Will you provide an equity workshop for our event?

Right caret

Moving beyond piecemeal equity efforts, the ICS Equity Framework and Process advances equity systems change–from a deficit to a proactive system.

ICS Equity is not an initiative, a model, or a workshop. The ICS Equity Four Cornerstone Framework and Process forms the core and provides a framework for all of the organization’s work.

We can provide a one-half day overview of the ICS Equity Framework and Process as a way to introduce the work and to help participants decide on hosting or attending a 3-day ICS Equity Institute.

We also provide custom professional development for organizations who have completed an ICS Equity Institute to deepen the work.

What are the National ICS Equity Institutes?

Right caret

The 2021 Annual National ICS Equity Institutes will be held virtually, via synchronous online learning, due to the continually evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health recommendations. The Annual National ICS Equity Institutes Part I and Part II are typically hosted every summer in Madison, WI, and designed for teams (e.g, district leadership team, school leadership team, state teams, regional teams, association teams, and other organizational teams). The ICS Institute Part I , 3 day event is designed to introduce teams to the ICS Equity Framework and Process.

ICS Equity Institute Part II: Co-Plan to Co-serve to Co-Learn (C3)™, 2-day event is designed for teams to engage more deeply with the Co-Plan to Co-Serve to Co-Learn process.

Teams find the ICS Equity Institutes invaluable as they experience various activities within each Digital Module that teams will in turn facilitate in their setting. The National Institute provides extensive team time to collaborate on each of the ICS Equity Steps and to create their ICS Equity Action Plan to carry the work forward in their setting.

Digital Modules

Can I implement ICS Equity in my setting with the ICS Equity Digital Modules without attending an ICS Equity Institute?

Right caret

Yes. The ICS Equity Digital Modules have been designed to lead teams through an easy to understand, step-by-step process to implement the equity work in their setting. At the same time, the ICS Equity Institute leads teams through the ICS Equity Four Cornerstone Framework and Process and through each of the ICS Equity steps (see the Digital Modules page). Teams experience the content and activities themselves to better prepare them to lead the work in their organization.

Digital Modules

How do we access the ICS Equity Digital Modules?

Right caret

Schools, districts, and other organizations may access the Digital Modules by purchasing a site license. For schools, the district should purchase a site license for each school in the district and in so doing, a site license for the district leadership team is provided without cost. All staff in the particular school may access the log-in to read the Modules and contribute to the fillable forms in the Modules. In this manner, everyone on the staff may be part of the process of creating the ICS Equity Action Plan at the end of each Module to operationalize the work.

Digital Modules

At this time ICS Equity includes school-level and district-level Digital Modules. What additional sets of Digital Modules will be forthcoming?

Right caret

We will be adding a set of ICS Equity Digital Modules for school board members, state departments of education, students, community members, university leadership and teacher preparation programs, post-secondary institutions, professional associations, and city/county governments.

Digital Modules

How can the ICS Equity Digital Modules help us implement ICS Equity in my setting?

Right caret

The ICS Equity Digital Modules feature a Module for each step in the ICS Equity Four Cornerstone Framework and Process. Each Module explains each ICS Equity step supported by research. First, the team will read the Module and type in the answers to the ICS Equity Action Plan at the end of the Module. Each Module includes practical activities and Powerpoint slides that teams can adapt and use to facilitate each ICS Equity step with the rest of the staff. We suggest that teams rely on the Digital Modules as they would a book study. With the ICS Equity Digital Modules, teams have all the information they need to implement ICS Equity in their settings.
