Improving Systems, Teaching with Equity-Based Professional Learning

How would you re-design systems and structures to eliminate barriers, improve access to high-quality teaching and learning, and increase capacity of teachers? What or who is responsible when students struggle to grow academically? What aligns to your professional values and those of MMSD?

These are some of the questions elementary leadership teams dig into during ongoing professional learning with Integrated Comprehensive Systems for Equity (ICS Equity). ICS Equity uses a systems-based, framework approach to eliminate inequities in education.

“There are a lot of people in this district who are very passionate about the work that we’re doing, but also all of our teachers are really realistic,” Morrison said. “It’s nice that we’re being involved in this because we are bringing up concerns and asking the hard questions of how district leadership is going to help us make these shifts so that we can actually do what this framework is asking us to do.”
